In 1851, when the earliest records of Union of Strict Observance Lodge Nº 3 first appear, the City of Detroit was a very different place. Wooden storefronts lined muddy streets. The population had barely reached 40,000. The world was slower, quieter, and far more uncertain. Yet, in the midst of that young and restless frontier town, a group of Detroit men established a Masonic lodge that would endure for generations.
