To the Brethren of Union of Strict Observance Lodge #3 Detroit, Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan.
If you have submitted your annual dues by mail and have not yet received notice that your dues have been paid, please accept our apologies – we are mailing out notices but it is taking time for them to pass through the US Postal Service. We will send acknowledgement of receipt once we receive your checks but it is going to take time for those receipts to be delivered. If you have not received your receipt within 60 days of mailing in your dues, please contact either the Secretary (Worshipful Brother Sean Moffatt) or Worshipful Master (Worshipful Brother Miguel Denyer), and we will look into the matter and get back with you ASAP.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Brethren, as some of you will by now, be aware, there will be no “in-person” Officer Installation this year.

Brethren, regular business communications have resumed (since July) but are subject to COVID-19 restrictions:
- Masks must be worn to enter the Masonic Temple (may be removed once in the lodge room).
- Entry into the Masonic Temple is subject to COVID-19 pre-screening (temperature check and questionnaire).
- Elevators are limited to two (2) persons at a time.
With regards to degree work, Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft degrees are permitted but Grand Lodge has issued an edict suspending all Master Mason degrees until further notice.
…To the all new website of the Union of Strict Observance Lodge #3 Detroit, Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan. This website serves two main purposes:
- As a source of information for those interested in becoming a Mason, more specifically, those with a desire to join Union of Strict Observance Lodge #3, Detroit F & AM of Michigan.
- As a networking tool for the existing and future brethren of our lodge.
This website has several features, some of which are member only and will not be visible to the viewer unless logged in to a user account. Some of those features include a fully functioning forums setup (some publicly viewable, others are member only), Social Network type application (similar in function to other popular networking apps such as Facebook), and an events calendar.
We hope that you find this website to be informative and useful.
Union of Strict Observance #3 Lodge Web Admin Team.

From that point on, you will automatically receive the newsletter in your email every time a new edition is published.
Incidentally, it would be appreciated if those of you who are in touch with other brothers who, may not be aware of our technological advancements in the lodge, would kindly pass on the information so that they can also sign up.
It is hoped and expected that these new initiatives will enable us to stay in touch with ALL of the brethren of Union Lodge #3 and not just those who are still able to attend the regular business meetings.
2B1ASK1 (To be one, ask one)… Ever wondered how to become a Mason? Were you led to believe that we are a secret society and that you must be invited to join? If so then you have been missing out!
You see, contrary to popular belief, becoming a Mason is a deeply personal choice. The decision to become a Mason must come from within you and cannot be influenced by us. Becoming a Mason is a choice that you must make of your own free will, void of solicitation. But how are you to join a lodge if you don’t know how or where to go?
That is where we can help… and why we say “2B1ASK1”. If you want to become a Mason, your first step is to ask someone that you know is a Mason (or ask one of your friends if they know a Mason… I’m sure that someone within your circle of friends knows one) to point you in the direction of your local Masonic lodge. If no-one in your circle knows a Mason then look up Masonic lodges online. Then contact the lodge directly and ask for an application to petition for the degrees.
Once you’ve completed your application and handed it back to the lodge, you’ll be investigated, and provided everything goes well, there will be a vote in the lodge to see if you can progress further. After that, if everything is in order, then you will be contacted with information on becoming initiated as an Entered Apprentice (the first degree in our fraternity) – and so your Masonic journey will begin from there.
So, if you’ve been thinking about becoming a Mason, you can go through the steps listed above, or you can get started by filling out our “General Inquiries” form and ask to be sent an application to petition for the degrees.

A Mason is a member of the oldest and largest goodwill fraternity in the world, known as Masonry or Freemasonry.
Masonry teaches that each man has a duty to make life better, not just for himself, but for everyone.
Whether that means helping to clean up the environment, volunteering on civic projects, or helping a child learn how to read – Masons make a difference every day.
Although Masonry is not a religion, members must have a belief in a Supreme Being. All religions are welcome.
Masonry insists on toleration and the right for each member to think for himself in religious, social, and political matters.
Like any fraternity, some of the Masonic information is privileged to only the members.
However, Masonry is not a secret society. It does not hide its existence or attempt to conceal the purposes, goals, or principles of Masonry.
Most importantly, Masons are presented with the opportunity to grow as individuals, are provided with the tools to make a difference, and are challenged to leave the world a better place.
Our Mission To be the first choice of men of quality, who will contribute to the strength of the organization and enhance its ability to achieve its vision.
Freemasonry in Michigan shall accomplish this by creating a growing, active, relevant organization of great appeal that is well known and respected for making a difference.
